Multiple affiliations

You can now create multiple affiliations on Academia.edu. You can add affiliations to multiple universities and also to multiple departments within the same university. To do this, just go to your edit page, in ‘My Webpage (edit)’, and click on ‘add affiliation’.

This is really a great improvement! However: the problem of changing URLs for my profile remains. Let’s assume someone cites a paper I publish on my profile and gives the current URL of the paper in the reference-list. If I now change my main affiliation, the URL of my profile and hence of my paper changes so that the paper is no longer available under that URL.

Also more generally I don’t like the idea that my profile URL changes when my (main) affiliation changes. For me, the advantage of using academia is that it’s independent of my current affiliation.

I think it would make sense to at least offer a stable url for all members. The affiliation related ones can be aliases for that one.
